Spongy Moth

The spongy moth (a.k.a. gypsy moth) is an invasive, destructive pest that presents significant risks to our local forests. Spongy moths defoliate trees by consuming all or almost all of their leaves, eliminating their ability to photosynthesize. Without photosynthesis, trees cannot produce the resources they need to survive.

Fireblight

Fireblight is a bacterial infection that can become prominent in wet weather conditions in the early spring. This bacterium can cause the death of buds, leaves, flowers and new growth. The decline from fireblight in our area is usually found on Crabapple, Callery Pear, Cotoneaster, Spirea, Mountain Ash and Quince.

Treatment programs are specific to the species and conditions affecting your property.  Treatments are designed to maximize longevity with minimal or no ecological impact.

Fungal Treatments

The majority of tree diseases are caused by fungi that are weather related. Fungal diseases can affect the roots, leaves and needles, trunks, and vascular systems of trees and shrubs. Our protective treatments work well to mitigate fungus development.  Control methods range from foliar sprays and trunk injections to broader cultural practices.

Soil Aeration

Secondary problems, such as insect infestations, disease pathogens or pathological decline, are the result of a primary condition. The soil environment that is home for your trees must exhibit mineral, organic matter, water, and air in adequate proportions.  Arbortech has the experience to recognize damaging soil conditions and the ability to correct it with the most modern equipment available.

Tree Fertilization

Plant vigor is essential for maintaining landscape trees and shrubs.  The stress of urban and suburban landscapes usually comes from a lack of the natural resources that nourish trees. When leaf debris is removed, your plants’ source of food goes with it.  An appropriate invigoration program must take into account tree age and species, existing soil conditions, current tree health, location, and what specific nutrients are most needed.

Most of the problems affecting trees and shrubs are the direct result of human activity. Trees affected by physiological problems are often misdiagnosed as suffering from insect infestations or disease decline. Recognizing these problems takes a trained tree expert with years of experience.

Temperature Fluctuations

Reactions to cool and cold temperatures are referred to as cold tolerance. The tolerance of living tree cells to dehydration and ice crystal formation is known as hardening. Fluctuating temperatures can disrupt hardening in the middle of winter, making trees more vulnerable to cold damage. You can help your trees and shrubs recover by feeding and invigorating them at the proper times.

The Arbortech Advantage

Knowing what plants go where and how to properly prepare and adjust a landscape site requires a certified arborist. We diagnose the root cause of physiological problems, teach clients about optimal cultural and design practices, and put your landscape back on the right path.

Transplant Shock

Transplant shock is a term used to describe a number of stresses that can occur on newly transplanted trees and shrubs. It pertains to the plant being unable to adapt to or accept its new environment. It usually involves a plants failure to root well. These factors start in the nursery and may occur at any time, often as many as five years after transplant. If the wrong tree is planted in the wrong place it will almost certainly suffer from transplant shock at some point.
